VITA – meaning "life" – captures the spirit of this open, inviting, and efficient home designed with a focus on aging-in-place and mobility. Its flexible layout and purposeful features accommodate a wide range of lifestyles, and its small footprint can be easily configured to fit many properties.

 

VITA is designed for affordable construction through a small footprint of only 500 square feet and using common, readily available construction methods and materials.

 

VITA is congruous with a range of aesthetics from modern to traditional. It is complementary to the many bungalow style houses in Raleigh, yet features simple, modern materials and details. Sustainable features include electric appliances, heat pump dryer, heat pump air conditioning, optional radiant floor heating embedded concrete slab, solar panel ready, and efficient use of materials.

VITA was the winning entry for the 2023 “An ADU for U” design competition sponsored by the AARP, City of Raleigh, Better Living Design, and the Universal Design Institute.

VITA is included in the City of Raleigh ADU Fast Track program as a pre-reviewed building plan that is ready for permit. If required, any time spent on design customizations, site planning, and assistance with permitting will be billed at an hourly rate in addition to the plan set fee.
